Brock's surgery...

So I'm backtracking QUITE a bit here. Finally uploaded pics and found a few spare min to work on blogging.

On Oct. 1st, Brock got his tonsils and adenoids taken out. We had to be there at 6:30 in the morning but sweet sweet brock, right after I woke him up extra early and loaded him in the car in the cold morning, he remembered where we were going and started singing (at 6am mind you) "We're going to the hopsicle, we're going to the hopsicle!!" Just so very Brock!!

Anyways- we got there and Brock was so sweet and brave and just happy. He only was sad for like 30 seconds when they had to prick his finger for blood.

He loved the special jammies he got to wear. And also on his bed they had a little packet of crayons, stickers, paper and some puzzle things. He was soooo stoked and played and played until it was time to go back. He was so brave and excited to take a ride on the roly bed. It was cute. (I on the other hand bawled as soon as he was around the corner! It was really scary for me to send my sweet little guy away to get put under and have surgery... gotta love those pregnancy hormones!) Anyways- he was back within like 45 min. They brought him back to me just as he was waking up.

But the dumb thing was that I don't think they gave him any pain meds before he woke up. So aside from the confusion of the anesthesia he was in a LOT of pain! So even though he had an IV in his arm, they brought some nasty liquid loritab for me to squirt in his mouth. Which he's in pain and doesn't want to swallow, plus it tastes gross so you do the math. UGH- I was so angry that they did all that so DUMB!! Anyways- once the pain meds kicked in he just chilled and ate slushies and watched TV till they let us go home.

(OK I'm embarrased by this picture but I was still angry at the nurses and hadn't gotten any sleep the night before from stress and the extra pregnancy face padding is all very flattering I know....)

The first day home was OK- the second day was actually pretty great- but then it went down hill. The 3rd through 8th days were really rough... He'd wake up in the morning in a TON of pain. But he did sleep good at night the whole time for which we were VERY grateful. Anyways- it was ALWAYS a battle to get him to drink an entire cup of either slushie or soda that was spiked with his pain med and antibiotic because Brock refused ANY oral medication. (even the yummy bubble gum anti-biotic). But once he was drugged he did pretty good most of the time. But he hardly ate and lost like 5-6 pounds (which he was already only like 35 pounds which is little for a 4 year old to begin with.) But he's gained it all back and then some....

But looking back now- it was so worth it. He sleeps better, he eats better, he doesn't wake up his brother with his snoring- just good. He's a trooper...

I totally know how you feel about your kids going into surgery-even a simple one. I've cried every time my kids have gotten tubes and when Jakson got his adenoids out. And I couldn't even blame it on pregnancy hormones!

It's tough to have the kids put under with such crazy drugs! Modern medicine is amazing though. They never never tell parents about how horrible they'll feel for the week after! I had a similar experience with Tenaya and she refused the liquid lortab too! So we dealt with the pain! It's so hard to see children in pain! You're a great mom! I hope that everyone's feeling better from the crappy colds! Take care!

I am so glad little Brock is doing well. I am thinking Sadie will be doing the same thing soon. I am putting it off because Savy was an absolute horrible experience! The meds were so gross and it was a knock down drag out for the first 4 or 5 days!
