Kara's first braid...

OK- If I show you this you have to promise not to laugh at my lack of motherly skills.

No I'm serious...

A little background may be needed....  So growing up I wouldn't exactly call myself a tomboy because I hated/sucked at sports or wussed out of them.  But I was never into make up and girly things like some girls.  Maybe it was because I was impressionable in the 90's where bands like Green Day were cool and the girls who went to those concerts were grungy...  Who knows- but let's just say I never ever learned how to braid.  I doubt I ever really had long enough hair to really learn how to braid my own hair.  But I did have this friend named Erin Armstrong who had the most gorgeous long long blond hair that I envied and her mom would do the coolest braids with crazy names like french twist and fish tail or something...  But I still never braided nor learned to braid hair....

But I digress.....

So Dan and I have this weird bias against little girl bangs.  Not that we hate them on other kids, we tried it on Kara once and we didn't really care for it.  So we've tried to let her hair just go without bangs.  But then we run into the inevitable problem of the tomboyish mom who has NO clue how to do a little girls hair who won't stay out of her eyes!   See- I stressed about this before she was even born!!!  Click here for proof...

Anyways- the worst part of this equation is that Kara HATES having anything in her hair.  She must have inherited that from Dan right?  So anytime I get a ghetto side ponytail or pigtails in her hair she yanks them right out.  Now I'm going to tell you this and please don't call DCFS but I even tried gluing her hair things in and she still yanked them out along with chunks of hair.  Sometimes she even runs over to the trash and throws in the bobby pin or rubberband  she just rescued out of her hair.

So anyways- long story to tell you that I finally tried my first braid on the front of her hair.   It is super ghetto and definitely shows off my lack of braiding skills but she has yet to figure out how to get it out so score one for me....  So here ya go- try to keep the laughter and the jests to a minimum but here's Kara's first braid!  Hahahaha- I'll start the chuckles myself...

OK so maybe it's not THAT bad but it's only because you can't see it in person...

I love the braid, Kailey has learned that she has no choice in the matter of getting her hair done, but I have learned that if I give her something to do while I do her hair she will sit there longer. Her favorite activity is to shake the bottle of finger nail polish and then I paint her nails.

Look at Kara! She is looking older and it's only been a month since I've seen her! Good job on the braid! It looks cute!
And, Scott looks very handsome in his "first day of school" picture. You're an awesome Mom!
