OK this is a long ranting post so sorry- but yeah- so if you know me, well, at all, you know I have this weird issue with naming my kids anything in the top 100 popular baby names of the year or 2 before. (For those of you who don't know me and read my blog- I'm wondering who you are and why you read my blog but I think you have excellent taste- but anyways- in 3rd grade there was me(Nicole), a Nichole, a Cole, and a Nick all in my class. It drove me INSANE- the teacher would call a name and we'd all look!) Plus I just absolutely cringe when people put an H in my name. I don't judge them or hate them- I just hate seeing my name with an H in it. To be honest, I think it looks ugly. Sorry if any of my annonymous blog stalkers spell Nicole with an H. I know my sister in laws sister does and I'm sorry Cait- I really like your sister though. :)
Anyways- I had picked Ellie as the name for our baby if it was a girl as soon as we found out we were pregnant. I had never at that time heard of any babies I knew being named that. There was an Elsie down the street that I think is the cutest teenager ever and I picked Ellie kinda from that. But I come to find out that Ellie was like the 30th most popular name in Utah in 08 and probably higher in 09. But like 170 in the US.
So I think I'm gonna have to bump that name. But now I have NO clue what to name this kiddo if it's a girl!!! Totally stumped in fact! Seriously every name I think of that I like, I look up and it's in the top 30! Grrrrr..... naming children is so hard especially when you're a freak like me....
Plus I'm always scared of naming them something they will hate......
Being psycho definitely has it's drawbacks....
As an afterthought, what do you think of these names.....
Ally
Elsie
Josie
Elle
Also- how many of you know a baby Ellie?

I don't know any Ellie's but I do know a lot of Ally's!
I don't know any Ellie's either. I kinda like the name Josie.
I don't know any Ellie's either and it's way cute! I have a cousin named Josie and she's 14. I do hear the name Ally quite a bit. You'll find the perfect name for her if you're having a her. I love your rundown of explaining to the rest of us why it's so hard to find the perfect name! Love it! I always look at them the whole time I'm in the hospital before I make a final decision. But that's just me.
i know three ellie's under age three, but i do love it! elsie is in our top three for girls names (not that we will probably ever get to use it!;) so that is my first pic. i also love josie. i think ally is super popular right now! i know four baby allys.
I LOVE the name Josie...maybe because of Blink 182's song "Josie"? I don't know, but I've never met a Josie. I have, however, met at least one of the others that you mentioned.
Oh, and I totally understand hating the way your name looks with an "h". The problem with having a name that's not in the top 30 is everyone thinks it must be spelled in a complicated way if it's not popular, so EVERYONE spells my name wrong...even though I think it's pretty straight forward...
I hope you enjoyed my rant inspired by your rant ;)
I think you go ahead and use Ellie. I love it. I know one 9 year old named Elizabeth and they call her Ellie and that is it! Elsie is on our list...has been for years because it is my Great Grandma's name. So I like that one too! I've heard of more Ella's than Ellie's.
Good luck!
My sister is naming her baby Amelia and calling her Millie.
If we have a girl we are using Jayne Amelia (total coincidence that my sis is using it too)...and I just found out that Jane is getting more popular and I said, oh well! I've liked it for years!
Josie is cute but I will forever think of two people
Josie and the pussycats!
and Josie Grosie from that movie.
but if you use Josie it will be a great opportunity for me to replace that with cute little Josie Baldwin!
I know way more ally's than Ellies.
I know 4 little girls under 2 that have "Ellie" or "Elle". If you're trying to avoid the whole Nicole, Nic thing, it would be the exact same with Ellie and Elle. I know a lot of ally's too, but they are all older.
My niece's name is Elle (but they call her Ellie). A friend from hs (she lives in TX now) named her daughter Ellanor but calls her Ellie - same as Richard's bf from hs who married a girl from England and she goes by Ellie.
When I think of Josie, I think of Josie and the Pussycats - but that's a good thing for me!
I know one Elsie and she's a cute girl.
I know a lot of Ally's as well. What about Kally? Then both she and Kara could have "K" names? There are a few of those out there, too, though.
There were four babies born in our ward in 2009 and one was named Ellie. There is also one in Caleb's class this year. One of my friends has a little girl named Elliana and so does another of my friends sisters. They both call them Ellie. I think Elle is getting to be more popular too. My cousin named her baby Elle and I've heard it a few times since. I've heard Ally quite a bit lately too. None of these are super popular, but I have heard those more lately.
There are a lot of Ally's but it's a cute name. Ellie reminds me of a dog's name for some reason, sorry. Can't get past it. But I love Josie and I love Elle. Elle is so pretty and classic. Elle is my vote for sure!
Thanks for all the feedback. And in case you read all the other feedback- I am no where near closer to picking a name for this child. lol. I just hope for easy naming sake it's a boy... lol
I know a little girl named, Elizabeth Louelle, and they only call her Ellie. Does that count?
I know like three Ellie's here in CA, all under the age of 4.
My neice is an Ellie, and I have two friends with daughters named Ellie!!! Sorry, but it is still a really cute name!!! I say if you like the name that is all that matters!!!
